Those that think institutions that control TRILLIONS of dollars should not be audited are simply bat-shit crazy. Not only should the Fed be audited by the Trump administration but should be audited EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. a new administration takes office. If we want to be sure the institution truly does remain free and independent, each administration must know that their handling of the Fed will be held accountable by the succeeding administration.

That basically removes their independence by holding a gun to their head when they make decisions though.

Damn right it does and should be.

Remember, the article pointed out that the review was going to be on its "non-monetary policy operations". The Fed has been party to political shenanigans while hiding under the "independent" umbrella for at least the last 3 administrations, if not longer. How else do you explain Janet Yellin keeping interest rates at or near 0% for the entirety of the Obama admin and then raises interest 1 month after the 2016 election in a fairly transparent attempt to derail an incoming presidents fiscal agenda? And then providing a "transitory" cover for Biden's inflation? If they are going to play the political game they should then be held accountable for doing so. Either hold them accountable or get rid of the Fed altogether. If you don't like the idea of auditing the Fed every 4 years and monetary policy is going to continue to be influenced by politics at the Fed, then the only other option would be that its function should be absorbed by the Treasury Department so the people get a say in it every 4 years.
