    The Chinese Foreign Ministry commented on Monday on United States President Donald Trump imposing a 10% tariff on countries aligned with the BRICS group, stating that it opposes the use of tariffs "as a tool to coerce others." BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. The ministry repeated that restrictive trade measures "serve no one" and that "there are no winners in a trade war." I just visited a Dollar Tree store (in Virginia, the southern part) and noticed that prices have gone up. Most items that used to cost $1.25 are now $1.50, and some products—like aluminum foil—are priced at $1.75.

Before COVID, most items were $1.00. After the pandemic, the standard price rose to $1.25. Now, during the current administration, we're seeing prices climb to $1.50 or even $1.75.

I doubt these price increases will help move production to the U.S.—most of these inexpensive goods are still made in China. Yet, we’re paying more for them.
