Two weeks ago China was in grave economic danger! The very high Tariffs I set made it virtually impossible for China to TRADE into the United States marketplace which is, by far, number one in the World. We went, in effect, COLD TURKEY with China, and it was devastating for them. Many factories closed and there was, to put it mildly, “civil unrest.” I saw what was happening and didn’t like it, for them, not for us. I made a FAST DEAL with China in order to save them from what I thought was going to be a very bad situation, and I didn’t want to see that happen. Because of this deal, everything quickly stabilized and China got back to business as usual. Everybody was happy! That is the good news!!! The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US. So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!

Probably not intended that way, as Donald is more direct . It’s a threat of sorts -however, he’s also aware of the consequences of applying additional tariffs similar to those previously , so his options are limited .

Hot air ? Maybe, though I do think he could add another 10% or more on without too severe market reaction . 2-3% correction to the downside.

Just speculation , we’re all in the dark . Bessent made it clear earlier that negotiations were going no where. China are ready to take this to the US imo , let’s see the weekend reaction .

I won’t be buying anything into the weekend, that’s for sure .

Mostly what ffghost said. I would give up the idea of markets going back to normal. I suspect this is the new normal and you need to find a new winning strategy. I mean, we can all just completely ignore 90% of the "Trader#" posts, BUT, 1) it would be nice not to have to shift through the AI generated trash and 2) new traders are likely misled (as they always are) but the din of voices screaming about something of which they know nothing (in this case because I believe they are not people to begin with).

In seriousness though, it is hard to know why your trades were working and why they are now not working so well.

With zero knowledge of what you are doing, I can only say that we are currently at a higher level of VIX than during Feb/early March. When the VIX is 16, the expected move in the S&P is around 1% daily. Double that (VIX @ 32) and you have around a 2% move daily. We are now sitting in between.

So, if your SLs were 'configured' for a 1% move (i.e. less volatility), the perhaps you are getting penalized now because the moves are larger (and expected to be so).

How do you adjust for this? Options: stop trading until the VIX drops back to Feb levels (sub 18), widen the trades (both profit and loss expectations) and keep size the same (if you can handle the swings), OR (probably the best approach) widen the range but keep the size smaller until you get the feel for current volatility conditions.

Backtesting with the wider range mentality is a good way to see if your strategy would be working in this environment.

Sorry I cannot offer more concrete advice. If/when the VIX returns to 16~18, the trades that worked for you early in the year will likely do so again.

Undoubtedly a reaction to the reporter "TACO" question (alongside foreign nations perhaps dragging feet in the hopes that our judicial system will put a stop to the tariffs madness) and a need to assert some sort of masculinity. Of course, there could be behind the scenes stuff occurring that prompts a 'smack' to speed up talks...similar to how Trump suggested a 50% tariff on the EU to get them to the table and then removed that threat immediately thereafter.

Whatever the case, this is why you don't call a bully/madman/egotist "scared/inferior/fake/etc" (in ANY walk of life) unless you want the obvious reaction (usually over reaction). If I am a bear, I would like to see Trump poked repeatedly and the volatility spike. If bullish, I would like everyone to quiet down!
