Alive and kicking only in one form. The country could be a great source of good and prosperity for huge numbers but it's throttled by its leadership and cronies. Just as Putin has agreed he pre-planned the Ukrainian war but only stole Crimea as his army was not yet ready for a full war and he needed the time to build up his army and his financial strength
Bear in mind that Russia has in the last 100 years invaded 14 countries. About 1 every 8 years so it seems to be what they are about
