This means that Russian armed forces will gain legal justification to defend newly recognised and youngest countries in Europe. Those merry Ukrainian gunners who yesterday lobbed some 700 shells into Lugansk republic can look forward to some really nice precision-guided munitions coming from east.Also anything that flies above territory of the two republics will learn the beloved NATO term 'no-fly zone',but enforced by Russia.Remember Libya? As for the borders of the DPR and LPR, they are defined by their fundamental documents on sovereignty and confirmed by referenda in 2014. From the point of view of the LNR and the DNR, the territories of the former Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which are now under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are the occupied territories of the DNR and LNR.

He fears a kin-culture committed to building a society based on those values. Why does Kyiv need to turn West to secure them? Because Putin has made his legacy the destruction of them. East is not an option. If Russia were a free and democratic society, none of this death and destruction would be necessary. That is the real story of this war.

Wouldnt be surpsised to see it go below that level. As for indices I am mostly in long term. Every month I add usd 10K to my positions. They are automatically placed in Ishares DAX and S&P and smaller positions in Green energy and tech specific funds. I am in loooong term on those so looking 15-20 years ahead before thinking about closing them. Lots of things will happen between now and then so want even think about changing my investing profile.

Interesting. Well this could very well be one of those "famous last words" type of statement/proclamation, etc. Which could go either way too - very right, or very wrong. I doubt Ukraine is that important to trigger such a widespread conflict, and in turn sink worldwide capital markets. I do agree with your point in another post that Western Europe will fold to Russia easily, but probably not the US.

An ultimatum has been presented to Kiev - to stop the war immediately, otherwise all the consequences will be in Ukraine.

Since February 21, 2022, the DPR and LPR have become, from the point of view of Russia, recognized states that are not part of Ukraine.

My point is that when the leader of one of only three really sovereign countries in the World speaks - everyone better listen carefully. Putin is not to invade or occupy Ukraine... that's what US desperately wants and he is not going to fall into this obvious trap... US needs him get busy and start wasting Russian resources in Ukraine while it can divert its own attention to China... though China needs Russian backing and Russia need Chinese in order to withstand US pressure, military or otherwise... together they become invincible... so Putin will fast neutralize Ukraine and perhaps let Ukrainians themselves take care of the rest of their territory for political cleaning... Donbass militia along with soon deserted large portion of Ukrainian military force will spread around taking other regions under their control... and this will look really ugly because it's gonna be a typical civil war bloodbath...

well, the next thing Putin has to do is to take care of the Western Europe... not Eastern Europe because they are totally useless and survive only on donations from Germany and France... easterners are not an asset but one huge liability which Russia obviously don't need... so, Putin will start first with some diplomatic efforts in order to convince Germany and France that they would feel better under Russian security umbrella than the US's one... also promising them easy access to inexpensive Russian natural resources... that's quite a seductive for them offer because EU is a natural competitor to US, but with Russia they can cooperate economically for greater mutual benefits... depending on the situation some of the most annoying US mongrels like Poland or Baltic states may get hurt by some military strikes from distance... such details are quite difficult to predict but at the end we are likely to see the World splitting into several economic and currency zones of influence in one of which US will stay in control of only the anglo-saxon unit... US, GB, Canada, Australia, NZ and perhaps some other countries from the third world... the rest of the world will join either Russian or Chinese zone.... perhaps India will make its own one as well... France may also want to make its own zone and to lead the leftovers of EU, but Germany will certainly join the Russian part... also it's quite likely that Japan will follow their steps too...
