TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 19, 2016This is probably very close to true. The average annual return of CTA's who report to the Barclay's Currency Index was just over 2% for the last ten years. Not exactly enough for the average retail trader to live of off.

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 19, 2016This is the answer. Whenever someone asks a question like this you'll get a lot of personal bias, "I think", "My experience is" etc. The problem is, that's not science. It doesn't represent the broader truth about the quality of an approach. To my ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 17, 2016Which is exactly why your input would be valuable, that's an angle not many would think of but it would add significant insight. A non EUR/USD Euro Index would definitely have its own mood but it would also open up other trading opportunities.

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 17, 2016Nice find on that thread, we might have to start blowing the dust off that thing and get some of that Index analysis out to the readers. Pretty sure between you, Pipologist and myself we could resuscitate it. Might even drag some of the other Index ...

TheFxAnalyst commented Feb 17, 2016Most of us who keep active models on the US fundamentals have been looking at potential contraction since summer of 2014. It's been in my "what-if's" now for a while. That means I've also got to what-if a recession and how that might impact the US ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 17, 2016Both the Eur Index and the USD Index continue to show bearish signals in the cyclical indicator. If that is any reflection on trader sentiment, to say it's "mixed" is probably an understatement. I don't think this will persist much longer. ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 16, 2016EURGBP is something I'm going to inspect a little more. Not ready to pull the trigger on it just yet as we're in a pretty solid bullish trend in the monthly. I'd like to see that stall and I may get in here for a reversal, try to ride out a cyclical ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 16, 2016Cable is testing all kind of support right now... There is a chance that the price action here get's a little choppy. If you're not short, but want to get short, do a double check and make sure it makes sense. The next 24 hours may not be quite as ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 16, 2016Tiny little break lower, no signal yet in the momentum indicator so there may still be time to build early exposure and hope it continues south. Cyclical studies across the board support the move lower and there is room in the EUR Index as well ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016Sorting, Syncing and Trimming Data The next step in our little project is getting our data ready. We're going to drop our next subroutine right below the last one. In this instance - just to refresh - I'm actually putting it into the sheet object ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016The small amount of lift we saw in the EUR/USD was enough to pull the bullish signal in the cyclical indicator off the table. Now we have something of a mess on our hands as both the EUR Index and the USD Index have bearish signals in the cyclical ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016Because I was going to use the index itself as an asset I evenly weighted the index across the pairs incorporated, called it a Balanced Dollar Index. I treat the others the same way, even weighting, so I can build ML models against it and evenly ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016Get Some! (Data) Next thing we need to do is get some data. This can happen in a couple of different ways. If you're downloading data from MT4 manually or via a script, you can point Excel to the directory and automate the connection creation. It's ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016Setting up Excel The first thing we need to do is setup our spreadsheet. I always use a binary format because it's faster (.xlsb), although this will limit some of the external stuff you can do with the file, compared to if it was in one of the ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016It Begins... I actually started coding the CS in October of 2014 out of necessity. All of my analysis and modeling had turned into a disjointed mess with dozens and dozens of Excel Workbooks that took way to long to run. Making trade decisions was ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016EUR/USD Update The bearish momentum continues to play out and we've just seen a small break through support in what I'm going to assume is pretty thing volume as the US markets are closed. Not sure this thing will have a lot of ooomph on it. The ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016Pip that's all prop stuff, it's calculated the same time all the other formulas in the CS get processed. Back in the early 2k's my big idea was to model the dollar index via a machine learning algorithm and trade it as a basket which allowed for ...

TheFxAnalyst replied Feb 15, 2016The intraday levels in the EUR/USD are getting back into a more neutral place (APL), if that happens AND support holds, it makes the bullish forecast in the MR (mean regression) and the CT (cyclical trend - name changed for clarification) more ...
