Thanks MR D. You really need to frame these proven methods to fit you. A blend of the first two systems suits me and my personality and goals so for me following this trade is proving to be fairly easy. I plan on writing down exactly what features I ...

Well the market closed about an hour ago at about 1.3640 so it's up by about 70 pips again today. If anyone is interested there was a great article on forexblog.org today url I hope they're right. It's always good when the news supports your ...

I'll answer your question before I post the daily update. You're talking about the system on my blog right? It's 12 days for a new high not a weekly high. Basically, you enter on the 80 - 120 breakout and only exit if you don't get a new high (or ...

OK it's almost 8pm UK time again so lets call that Tuesday's close - it's made a new high again to close at about 1.3570ish so that's the trade 200 pips in profit so far... Reset to the number of days without a new closing high counter back to 0.

Well, that's Monday over. The market doesn't look like it's closing at a new high today, see what it does tomorrow.

OK that's the weekend after two days into the trade. The price has closed around 1.3490 so the position is now around 100 pips in profit, not much for a trend following system but not bad considering we're only two days into a trade that will last ...

Right I've just gone long 1 lot on the EUR/USD @ 1.3390. The Forex doesn't close as it's 24hr, so I'll define the close as around 8pm GMT. If we don't get a higher close in the next few weeks I'll close the position and take the loss, if we get a ...

Well not performing well would be a break even year, long-term trend following systems aren't usually much worse than this, but you're right it can be. An average year with long-term trend following might be 30% return, good year 100% return. I'm ...
Trading Systems work for 6-12 mnths then die?
- Davidee replied Sep 21, 2010
I only use medium to long-term trend following systems. I find that they usually work pretty consistently and if there is ever a (relatively rare) long period (say around a year) where they don't work that a string of very profitable trades are just ...
Trading Systems work for 6-12 mnths then die?

So you agree with me at least as far as to say Forex pairs and indices are very different and just because a trading system works consistently on one of them it doesn't mean it should/will work on the other?
Do your trading systems also work on stock indices?
- Davidee replied Sep 20, 2010
Well I don't know for sure, but I have my theories... Currencies, especially the large liquid pairs like the EUR/USD, seem to trend far better than indices. I think the market's liquidity is a factor in the 'smoothness' of the trend. Once a market ...

I have 7 trading systems on my blog url 6 work on currencies, 1 works on indices (S&P 500) but they rarely work on both, why do you think that is?

Your definition of Consistently Profitable?
- Davidee replied Aug 11, 2010
To illustrate the point according to O and A, around 55% of traders are now long on the EUR/USD after it rallied to around a 3 month high, then started falling. What's your predictions for the pair and how does that fit with retail trader sentiment?

Red coming up 20 times in a row means one of two things - It's either coincidence, in which case red is no better or worse a bet than black and we 'should' see a 50/50 split just as we would on the first spin as there is still no logical reason to ...

I was thinking, this is one of the strongest pieces of evidence to suggest it's all down to the traders themselves and not the big boys out to 'get them'.

Here's the thing. If you haven't got a lot of money you're not going to make a lot of money, at least not quickly anyway. Even decent returns of 30% per year take a lot of time to build up to something substantial if the starting pot is small. You ...
