FX is but a part of IB's business and a relatively recent one at that. Previously their FX dealings had more to do with converting client funds traded in markets in different currencies from the base currency and the need to convert/hedge exposure.

Actually, this is reminiscent of the Pound coming out of the ERM in 1992. I suspect the mechanisms of speculative pressure might well have been very similar although the pound was seriously over priced. The franc is the opposite.

Excellent news. The Swiss Franc has been a proxy for trading the Euro (tied at the hip so to speak) for really quite some time. This will free up the CHF and make it once again a tradable currency in its own right.
