My broker doesn't allow hedging by opening a trade in the opposite direction. For example, if I long fiber, I would hedge it by short it because it's going down. With my broker, if I short, I would effective close the position and lock in the loss. ...

All eyes on the news tonight. The other thing is that usdjpy seems to be very sensitive to the direction of the stock market. If the US market is down, usdjpy will go down as well. So keep an eye on the SP futures.
