Its depends on how he used it. Its only an indicator that tells you there's good volatility or not, it can also be used for proper SL and TP targeting. I don't use ATR for buy/sell entry triggers.

Switch it to 1 hour chart and change the pivot to weekly and the TMA to daily. The no trade ATR rule does not apply on an hourly chart its only for scalping. There's less fakes in the hourly chart.
