I've seen gaps also lead to protracted trends as well, but given that yesterday ended in a buy climax and overnight feels like a buy climax, exhaustion seems more likely. But could lead, as you game plan suggests, to a nice morning trend down.

It seems to me that this is typically the case when new highs are made. No one is interested in buying at the new highs so you're left with sellers. Then price falls again until the intraday 'buy the dippers' buy it back up. Very interesting charts!
