markmm replied Mar 15, 2010There are a lot of other threads like Scottys or Behind Order flow that cover my thinking.

markmm replied Mar 15, 2010True, but I think that falls under order flow. Anyway I think I have made my points I shall let this thread perish there are better ones out there.

markmm replied Mar 15, 2010Ok, I can keep repeating how I don't think past price and derivatives of it are a enough to trade from.

markmm replied Mar 15, 2010Thanks Dan, but what else moves price?
Charts, time frames and indicators! Oh My!
-
markmm replied Mar 15, 2010Technically that is right but 1) Why would you trade without leverage? 2) Why would you trade your full margin.

markmm replied Mar 15, 2010I don't think position size (lots) is related to the price of the pair, if you buy 10 lots at 1.6000 and it moved 100 pips in your favour then the profit is the same if you buy it at 0.7000 and it moves 100 pips.

markmm replied Mar 15, 2010Its an intriguing puzzle, trying to work out which orders are being placed by who and why. Im wondering if its better to stick to one pair doing this to keep it simple.

markmm replied Mar 15, 2010This is an excellent thread Scotty, its good to see there are still people on there that can think for themselves. I am on the same path as you and Leon etc, I had a bit of a hiatus so need to catch up a bit.

markmm replied Mar 15, 2010Hey Dan, Yeah what I meant is looking at a chart only shows how price moved previously. I don't think this can tell you where price is going next based on that. To know where price is going next or at least have an educated guess you need to know ...

markmm replied Mar 15, 2010Sorry, I have been away for a while due to work. Anyway the point of this thread was to make people think about the tools they are using to trade with and what they are derived from.

markmm replied Feb 8, 2010I want to reiterate that when I talk about TA I am speaking about indicators and such like, S/R and price action used with things like round numbers or known rumoured stops/orders etc to me is not included in my definition of TA. Things like ...

markmm replied Feb 8, 2010I'm not sure but I think he uses external information. I am not saying that TA isn't useful, but it has to be used with another system that provides an edge.

markmm replied Feb 8, 2010I have read dibs, and the thread seemed to die when people realised it didnt work on the long term. Plus 10% a year, its hardly worth it, even if it did work for a few years.

markmm replied Feb 8, 2010Its based on common sense, just like saying the configurations of the stars dont move price, so it is impossible to build a system based on it that will be profitable in the long run.

markmm replied Feb 8, 2010So something like a Fib which people may use to predict where price will reverse, how can that help? it has nothing to do with orders, this goes for many other indicators and TA, I agree that you can see footprints of orders that have triggered but ...

markmm replied Feb 8, 2010I never said price was random, I said by using TA it impossible to predict where price is going, therefore random to the participant using that method. Gastons post are excellent, and he says the same things I do, orders move price, not the history ...

markmm replied Feb 7, 2010I have never seen evidence of this, im talking years not a few months, the ones that are are using something outside of price. If someone provides evidence I would be very surprised. The closest I have come to finding anything is pin bars ala J16. ...

markmm replied Feb 7, 2010Excellent points hanover, I agree with you completely. My belief is that the price is random when looked at from the point of view of TA.
