markmm replied Mar 16, 2010Interesting post Scotty, I have to admit I haven't looked into DOM I was put off by people saying no central exchange and iceberg orders. Im wondering though how far up the book can you see i.e. can you see limit orders 200 pips away or is it only ...

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010You get implied volatility data also, big offers/bids/stops also, this was just a sample of the data offered, Im not saying its even tradable yet but I am going to monitor it.

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010They give the estimated volume (seen on my chart) usually is a very rough rounded to 100M. I don't check it with bloomberg, I correlate it with how price reacts to it, so far it has been pretty good, but its very early days.

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010I find IFR very useful, not so much the commentary but the levels they publish, these option expiry's are given 1-2 weeks in advance and look how price reacts. Im not saying its a holy grail , but any clue to where orders are is useful.

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010Wonder why I never said anything bad, who do I see about getting an explanation? We are all capable of learning this stuff and being successful, don't put people on a pedestal, or be a sycophant. I thank DS for his posts but hes just someone who ...

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010The DOM is a waste of time in my opinion, unless you are scalping, you wont see the real limit orders on there, they will be iceberg, you also wont see the whole picture as FX does not have a central exchange. I think the IFR feed is the way to go, ...

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010Where does the stop hunting and option barrier stuff come in, do you still do that or is that part of the short term you have given up? Or do you use the principles scaled out to longer term trading?

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010I meant you analysis was a long term, but I agree you can use orderflow to get into a trade then manage it in the longer term.

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010I think you have taken a wrong turn, orderflow trading is more short term. Or have you changed your style?

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010I agree 100%, I know there are successful Technical traders, but I reckon they use it in conjunction with other stuff that has more predictive value.

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010The often quoted 95% traders lose, I would bet my house that most of them use pure TA. You may as well just toss a coin. I'm sure you can use TA to be profitable by using it to fade those traders that use it. But that's about it. You might ...

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010You are correct everything that happened in the past is on the chart. Can you use that to trade from? Yes but not using a MA crossover or Fib. I think this is a waste of time arguing about, if you use TA alone and are profitable then good luck to ...

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010Its based on logic and knowledge of what moves price. When I say TA I am talking about using MA crossovers fibs etc, and trading based on that. Sure if someone trades long enough using these they will get a feel for the market and maybe see patterns ...

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010Why waste your time doing all the TA stuff when is doesn't work. Waste of time you don't need it.

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010I still don't agree with what you think this style of trading is about, its based on understanding the market structure, participants and their motives and then finding a way to trade profitably from that. Trading from TA alone i.e. ma crossovers ...

markmm replied Mar 16, 2010No one is saying there is a secret. The TA hard and fast rules are the problem and the reason it will always fail, the market doesn't care about hard and fast rules based on a fib or a trend line or a pin bar. All these things do is tell you what ...
