so what was the rule on the EMA back then, i'm guessing trade was good as long as ema wasn't going through price? obviously you found the new way to be better. backtests are okay, I will compile later.

Grant, when you did the backtest with all the different profit targets that you sent me. was that done with 85 EMA? and no trade when EMA is in any part of the yellow box? I'm getting a number of different results usually you took a trade and on my ...

has anyone tried the exit with a moving average or something like that, just seems from testing that a lot of pips can get left on the table when using fixed take profit. possibly a trailing stop could work, but what a pain to backtest something ...

so is this strategy always 7-9 or does it change at some times of the year because of daylight savings?

but that is variable spread right? so buy stops are dependent on whatever the ask is at the time. not really great for a buy breakout if you trying to buy X pips above the bid on the chart.

thats ecn variable spread right? I already have one of those. but with this breakout method, if you gonna buy the top of the box, and metatrader bases its buy stops off the ask, with variable spreads, you will be guessing at the entrypoint.

can anyone recommend a good broker for this strategy, i'm guessing a broker with 2 pip spreads or better on gbpusd would be best.

yes, makes sense, so basically 15 pips up top and 13 pips on the bottom end is basically what we are talking about. fine with me, I just want to do backtesting and make sure I do it accurately, takes a long time to do it by hand so want to make sure ...

by your example there, if stoploss is 1.6510 on the short side and tp is 1.6420, if you have 2 pip spread, its really 17 loss or 73tp right? shouldn't we adjust the the short side for the spread like we do for the long side? it seems uneven to me. ...

grant, looking over this chart, any reason I woudln't go with the 105TP, seems to make more money. I'm guessing you went with the 75 because that and the 25 be had the best profit level for your goals?

which brokers work well with this method, I assume since this seems to coincide with news, you need a broker that can handle news trading? and ideally a 2 pip broker on gbpusd? any recommendations. right now i'm using an ecn style broker, but is ...

I think I finally get it, when you set the buy stop in metatrader, it bases that on the bid, but fills you at the ask, now that makes sense to me. so you are buying 5 pips and getting filled at 7 pips, I guess it makes it a little tougher with non ...

all manual, only way to make sure its right. one or two times there was a possibility in the 15 minute that you could have gotten stopped out so I went to the 1 minute or 5 minute to confirm which way the candle went.

I did a test on 2009 on the scull method. well modified by me. I did 4-6 timeframe. only one trade, whichever came first. 40 sl 35 tp. 5 pip buffer each way. after each month, count trades, multply by 2 for the pip spread and subtract. total was ...

this is what I would think, but then your stops and such need to be adjusted for your actual entry price I assume which would be 2 pips higher or whatever your spread is. I keep hearing people talk about long buffer being higher because of spread. ...

okay, so the buffer is the point on the chart where you enter, and where the stop loss is set at, but the actual entry will be different for longs such that in the example below, if you went long at 1.6507 and your broker has a 2 pip spread, you ...

okay, seriously, I'm not stupid, let me make sure I get this right, the actual buffer is +5 and -3 then? That would be the actual entry on the chart? or +5 and -5 is the actual entry on the chart? like if high was 1.6455 in the box then we enter ...

I think I found an EMA similar to what you are using that turns red and blue. so you are using sculls directions of +7 and -7 for buffer? also, what if the EMA changes color like partway through the box? do you just use the later color?
