Think in terms of percentages. A large account can be blown just as fast as a small one!
The secret of how professional traders buy and sell

Instead of risking too much per trade, why not go for 20% a month average with lower risk? That compounded for 45 months will get you the $1M.
A "doable" way to take a $300 account to $1 million in 45 months

Yes, true. With that accuracy and number of trades, 12% is what you can get. But I was just saying, with the 4hr charts you can take many more trades a year but just depends on your goals.
1:1 Risk Reward Ratio - Why it just makes sense
- misterboy replied Jun 15, 2012
That seems really low even for swing trading on 4hr. 12% a year is 6 net positive trades a year if you risk 2% a trade. That's pathetic if you ask me for a whole year and everyone should aim higher unless they only want 12% on their 1 million dollar ...

A university course back in 2008 got me interested in trading (stocks at first) and thats how it started for me.
Why did you start trading?

100% agree and that's exactly the sort of thing I do too. I have 2 systems too precisely for this reason - smoothing out the equity curve. And in my opinion, its probably the best way of dealing with drawdown. You cant avoid it but you can offset ...

Just my 2 cents, if you lost most of your money on just a few trades you probably were risking too much on 1 trade.

I was wondering after reading this thread, lets say the system IS random, what does this means going into the future? Will the randomness still be profitable like in the backtest?

IF your annual goals are around 15-20% a year, you can easily do it on daily TF with 1:1 with something that has like a 60% accuracy.
Taking Profits and drawdowns

Its one thing I try to work on. I tend to get nervous and fearful and hesitate after having losing trades even though from testing I know I should expect drawdowns sometimes.

I think the scenario in the video would only be true if you lose vast majority of the time and have a few large winners.
When to break the 2% rule?
- misterboy replied Apr 16, 2012
I dont believe in that rule. Its just a suggestion. It depends on your system. If your systems wins 30% of the time, then maybe even 2% is too much! But upto 3% is good in my opinion.
When to break the 2% rule?

I have tested a system very similar (with 5,3,3 setting) to that and got 55%-56% accuracy with almost 2:1 RR. But, the exits are not totally mechanical.
