I'd also say availability of easy leverage has played into this. Just have to readjust, up your leverage, scalp, play the ranges. The other option is to go for the more exotic pairs / crosses with bigger ranges. eurgbp, audcad, audnzd, gbp/jpy / ...

Who the hell can figure out what the FED will do? Consensus was that taper would happen in Sep., it didn't, massive USD sell off. Consensus wouldn't start will Jan. it started Dec, massive USD rally. Who's to say Yellen isn't pushing for more ...
