Reserve Quality a Key Driver for Stablecoin De-Pegging Risk
The quality of collateral reserves supporting a fiat-backed stablecoin’s peg is a key driver for de-pegging risk, says Fitch Ratings in a new report. Quality encompasses aspects such as the collateral’s exposure to credit risk and market value risks (including interest rate sensitivity). Additional factors that play an important role in de-pegging risk include the level of transparency around the reserves, and the effectiveness of arbitrage mechanisms designed to return the peg to its defined value.
