Luxembourg approves law to implement EU crypto reporting rules

Luxembourg’s parliament has approved legislation to implement the EU’s DAC8 directive, extending tax reporting obligations to crypto-assets. Lawmakers unanimously adopted the bill in a vote on Friday. From January 1, 2026, cryptocurrency exchanges operating in Europe have to gather detailed transaction data from users, including amounts invested, sale values and realised gains, and share it with national tax authorities across the bloc.
