Lagarde Urges EU to Tighten Stablecoin Rules
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has urged European Union legislators to impose stricter requirements on stablecoins issued outside the bloc. Speaking at a regulatory conference in Frankfurt, Lagarde said foreign issuers should only be allowed to operate in the EU if they are covered by “robust equivalence regimes” that match the bloc’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies pegged to assets like the euro or U.S. dollar, designed to maintain stable value.
