US consumer deteriorates in April
The Consumer Sentiment Index in the United States declined 1.9% in April compared to the month prior to stand at 77.9, a report posted by the University of Michigan showed on Thursday. The figure surged 22.3% on an annual level. The Current Economic Conditions Index tumbled 3.9% in the reported period compared to February but rose 15.8% from April 2023, amounting to 82.5 points. The Index of Consumer Expectations dipped by 0.5% on a monthly basis but grew 27.1% on a yearly basis, coming in at 77. Consumer Sentiment Up 22.3% YOY in Early April
Consumer sentiment declined 1.9% in early April to 77.9 but rose 22.3% YOY, according to preliminary estimates from the University of Survey of Consumers. “Sentiment moved sideways for the fourth straight month, as consumers perceived few meaningful developments in the economy,” according to Survey of Consumers director Joanne Hsu. “Since January, sentiment has remained remarkably steady within a very narrow 2.5 index point range, well under the 5 points necessary for a statistically significant difference in readings.
