A former Microsoft MSFT -2.4% engineer, Volodymyr Kvashuk, was sentenced today for nine years for defrauding Microsoft for more than $10 million, using a bitcoin mixer to hide taxable income and filing fraudulent tax returns. This is the nation’s first Bitcoin case that has a tax component to it according to the IRS. Kvashuk is a skilled developer who worked at Microsoft from August 2016 to June 2018. During this period, he abused his testing access to Microsoft’s Online retail sales platform to steal digital gift cards.
