1700 people die every day in USA and about 26000 around the world from Cancer alone...COVID is a joke. There will be a spike and that's about it. Making a way bigger deal out of this then it really is.

Cheers OT, this is another report of major heart complications resulting from the virus causing death.

------------

The 33-year-old social media star returned home after several days, but he had to be rushed back to the hospital last week after his condition quickly deteriorated.
The virus apparently caused irreversible heart complications.

Covid-19 Is Looking More and More Like an Autoimmune Disease

------------

How could a virus cause you to reject your own heart like it was a transplant?”

Icenogle combed the research and found evidence that autoimmune processes — ones triggered by a virus — could be to blame.

He later had success treating myocarditis with powerful transplant drugsthat essentially turned off the immune system and therefore blocked the autoimmune processes from doing more damage.

Now, in the context of the pandemic, Icenogle speculates that some of these same transplant drugs may prove helpful in treating Covid-19.

Isn't HIV's main effect to turn off the immune system?

There are so many things the scientists still don't know about Covid. A year into it and they find new things every day. It doesn't mean that what they find is good news or even accurate either. https://www.studyfinds.org/coronavir...imilar-to-hiv/

Like they say, this virus is a game changer on all levels. Right now hoping the vaccines (when they becomes available to all) are going to work for those taking it.

Once I listened to a podcast about a traveler catching the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus. He nearly died and they even had arranged his funeral but his wife just happened to be a virologist or something like that. She found out that before the modern medicine had taken over, there were treatments against viruses that were actually worked well. She managed to team up with a group of Russian scientists and come up with a cure that saved her husband. HE was eventually 100% cured.

The treatment involved finding other viruses that basically ate the MERS virus. These viruses were unharmful to humans. They were found in sludge from sewers. That's were they live. They pretty much injected the sludge directly into his veins. It surprisingly worked.

This is not just an old waif's tale. After the event she got funded to start studies on expending the knowledge base on virus vs, virus treatments. It is apparently a legitimate undertaking. However, I tried to look into who she was and what her new virus research institution was called but I couldn't find anything. maybe it was my poor research studies. If anyone finds out the details, maybe post a link.

Hi OT,

No mate I don't think HIV effects to turn off the immune system.

But yes HIV definitely damages the immune system.

It does this by attacking the blood cells that help you fight infection.

No vaccine has been found yet for HIV that will prevent infection.

They’ve been trying since the mid ‘80s.

HIV is now quite safely treated though by therapeutic drugs that stop the virus multiplying.

Those drugs help protect the innate immune system from the damage caused by HIV.

The new covid vaccines I believe (well, the current ones) will help to make people be asymptomatic which should stop the runs on hospital beds and have people able to work without actually feeling sick (even if they have the virus).

If everyone was asymptomatic then it mightn't matter whether you still had the virus as it wouldn't actually affect you (or maybe others).

From Nature magazine.

re asymptomatic persons with the virus

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-19802-w

All asymptomatic positive cases, repositive cases and their close contacts were isolated for at least 2 weeks until the results of nucleic acid testing were negative.

None of detected positive cases or their close contacts became symptomatic or newly confirmed with COVID-19 during the isolation period.

The citywide nucleic acid screening of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Wuhan recruited nearly 10 million people, and found no newly confirmed cases with COVID-19.

The detection rate of asymptomatic positive cases was very low, and there was no evidence of transmission from asymptomatic positive persons to traced close contacts.

We are still learning each day about this virus. They will nail it in the future for the safety for our citizens imo.

The parents of my son's friend caught the virus about a month ago. They are in their mid 50's. She did ok and seemed to come out without too many complications. He, on the other hand kept suffering from weakness, pain in his chest, confusion, fatigue and so on. Upon further examination, it was discovered that he has cancer and his condition is deteriorating rapidly.

Like they say; no one gets out alive. It's going to be one thing or another, sooner or later.

Cheers OT,

My best wishes to your sons’ friend's family and to everyone and anyone caught up in this current world nightmare.

Our species are inventative and resilient (well, to a point).

The future CAN be bright.

Have a great break over the festive period

(And yes, sooner or later, for sure - a given )

About freaking time. At least 8 months behind. I wonder what would have happened if this pandemic had started in 2016.

Here my thought: Chinese govt made covid-19, as a weapon of course. But some freak accident/ or intentionally released the virus. Why strain of influenza virus? just check how many death caused by common influenza in USA each year. Add some twist ... booom you got very powerful bio weapon against caucasian race. Yes, you caucasian seems to have weakness for flu, not like us Asian. I catch influenza each rainy season, but never went to doctors hot soup or hot ginger drink is enough No outbreak in any asian country, although we have poor medical facilitty...

Hi OT,

I was curious as to how someone could quantify the number of lives unnecessarily lost by a President's administration.

The link you have posted it seems was quoting from an original article in The Lancet.

From your dnyuz link …

"The report finds that the Trump administration’s health policies resulted in
461,000 unnecessary U.S. deaths annually".

Then when having a quick look at the original document from The Lancet (and not the dnyuz link) the following clarification turned up at bottom left of Page One as to how they arrived at the figure of 461,000 unnecessary deaths.

They had actually compared Life Expectancy it seems, not actual deaths if you know what I mean.

From The Lancet
US life expectancy, which was similar to other high-income nations’ in 1980, trailed the G7 average by 3.4 years in 2018(equivalent to 461000 excess US deaths in that year alone).

I certainly hope the dnyuz article then, by inference, is not implying that President Obama, with two terms at the helm, cost double that number of lives when also comparing it to the average life expectancy of G7 countries back in 1980? (ie ~900,000 deaths)

That would then be harsh on President Obama in my opinion

all the best
(non politically oriented, just facts) Pete

(ps I was fascinated by your coke can post above)

The article is brand new and Harvard researchers are hanging their reputations on it. I'm only placing a link to it and the authors are responsible for how and what of their article. However, there was a Trump death clock that calculated a similar number. In this older article, it explains their calculation method :
https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlo...death-counter/

Designing a death clock must be based on mathematical models. Trump and his defenders may wish to assign blame to other countries, individuals, and institutions. His detractors, on the other hand, may wish to assess the consequences of his statements, decisions, and actions earlier than March. But a death clock must not reflect conjecture and needs to exist outside the news cycle, identifying only that portion of deaths which, according to experts, have resulted directly from the president and his team’s delayed response.

As for the Obama comparison, there was no Covid-19 pandemic going on. If you are asking me if the methods used to calculate deaths during a pandemic can also be applied to deaths when there is no pandemic, that is way above my pay grade. In this Wiki page about Trump's death clock, there are several names including the designer of the clock that you maybe able to reach and discuss your findings and ask all your technical questions from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_Death_Clock

Regarding the coke can, I had been thinking about the same thing for the past several days. I estimated that all the viruses would fill up a barrel. I was even going to post the question on this thread and ask for guesses as to how much but I thought it would come across as silly and trivial. To my amazement, I came across that article today. Who knew?

Then I thought of how the David and Goliath story that has been related to Trump for all these years might actually relate to this. I could never figure out what that story would have to do with Trump. Now it makes sense to me. Something so little that can fit into a can of Coke brought the most powerful man in the world to his knees. Now, that is a Biblical story. In absence of any other explanation of how the David/Goliath story has anything to do with Trump, I am satisfied to take this explanation as the ultimate explanation that would make any sense. I am not imposing that idea on anyone but at least now I have an answer that I am happy with.
