David Marcus (who is leading the Libra project) released this blog today: https://www.cryptocraft.com/news/950...l-for-money-is

Not a lot of info in there, but anything he says I will be paying attention to. He's the bell cow for a lot of regulatory action that will come in the crypto space. Good luck, David. My grandchildren are counting on you

More libra news today:

https://www.cryptocraft.com/news/951...-to-testify-on
https://www.cryptocraft.com/news/951...-eu-regulators

Ironically, it seems like Facebook is turning into the little engine that could... somehow redeem themselves and obtain regulation in the digital asset space. I'm not so interested in the Facebook aspect, but the fact that they are carrying the flag for crypto regulation at the moment.

Libra is cracking under government pressure: https://www.wsj.com/articles/visa-ma...rk-11569967023

I never felt like Libra was the most important thing in the crypto industry but some here may want to know. More importantly, this does give all crypto users a window into the thoughts of officials out there. The question is are they still on an FB witchhunt post-Cambridge or can we extrapolate a judgment on crypto?

Bad or irrelevant depends on the scenario.

I could see Gram taking off. Telegram is used by ~200 million people (ref) and for many of them Gram will be their first encounter with crypto. I'm not really sure what plans Telegram has for Gram though.

I think Gram will be a game-changer. Many exchanges will list it.

PayPal has withdrawn from the Libra Association, the company announced Friday.

A PayPal spokesperson told CoinDesk in a statement that the payments firm “made the decision to forgo further participation” in the Facebook-initiated crypto project, to instead “continue to focus on advancing our existing mission and business priorities as we strive to democratize access to financial services for underserved populations.”

The statement continued: “We remain supportive of Libra’s aspirations and look forward to continued dialogue on ways to work together in the future. Facebook has been a longstanding and valued strategic partner to PayPal, and we will continue to partner with and support Facebook in various capacities.”

Even though PayPal pulled out, there are still 26 other guys in there.

The first Libra Association meeting is on the 14th. I wonder if anyone else is going to pull out before then.

Tough day for the old Zuckbuck today: Visa says it won't join the Libra Association

Gotta feel for him... not! I hope zuck doesn't muck this up so bad that he sets the rest of the crypto market behind even further.

FB's wallet https://calibra.com/ will not encounter as many barriers and should launch on schedule early 2020. FB just needs to support BTC and ETH to gain any traction.

Nice try Libra... but they are on the down and out path...
Facebook’s Libra unravels, and for good reason.

Central banks will create their own payment systems before allowing/adopting Libra....

It’s a complete disaster from a regulatory perspective, it’s a whole new ball game for law makers! The plan for Libra involves taking customer deposits, investing them in government bonds, holding traditional currencies in reserves and offering cross-border services and transacting in the new coin will require engagement with central banks, financial regulators and enforcement authorities around the globe. Crazy mess we don't need!

Man I kinda feel for that little robot. He doesn't seem to know what he's gotten himself into. All the politicians were blustering and posturing all over the place. Zuck did alright considering and I hope will continue on his path to gain "crypto" some widespread adoption. Whether we like it or not, he can help or hurt every instrument in the space for some time now.

Thanks Zuck. He's gonna ruin it for the rest of us:
Alarmed by Libra, EU to look into issuing public digital currency: draft
Stablecoins, including Facebook-led Libra, could come under securities rules, says global watchdog
EU maintains option of blocking Facebook's Libra
Even Facebook's Libra can't escape the fintech establishment

It's like when you're playing a friendly game of basketball with your friends at the local city park, and all of a sudden a professional basketball team starts coming to the park and starts hogging all the courts. Soon enough, the park officials have to get involved and force you to reserve courts and follow their basketball rules, else you get arrested.
