UK government wasted nearly £10bn on unused Covid PPE, figures show

£4.3 billion
The amount of aid spent on hosting refugees and asylum seekers in the UK continued to rise last year to £4.3 billion – up from £3.7 billion in 2022 – amid continuing value for money concerns, the aid watchdog finds today (Wednesday 10 April). This amounts to 28% of all UK aid in 2023

So 14 Billion is just wasted, its time governments were made accountable, they should run a country like a business, the waste is beyond measure and there are no downsides for those that waste our money

So the implications are for the pound to weaken as the government are clearly unable to control costs, I would not be surprised to see the pound fall, as more investment leaves the UK. The government will become even more aggresive in taxing the population to extract more money while throwing it away at the other end.

Tax hikes are only good if you are a socialist. Governments have a very poor record of spending excessively and wasting resources. The NHS in the UK is a case in point - this almost sycophantic obsession some of the UK has with this service is baffling - it needs to be scrapped and replaced with a much better system such as the German health system.

It does not matter which party is in charge they are all wasteful and self serving. I suggest you wise up and learn that tax hikes mean less investment which is bad for a currency.

Just a heads up, both UK and German healthcare systems are social welfare-based systems, the only real difference is the route that government-procured funding takes. In Germany, it comes out of social security taxes, which are significantly higher in Germany than they are in the UK.

German healthcare isn't actually cheaper than the UK, the accounting is just different. People in both countries still spend roughly the same ratio of their income on healthcare.
