Major central banks cool on retail CBDC
It may be some time, if at all, before we see the introduction of a retail central bank digital currency in a major economy outside China or India. The decision by the Bank of Japan to move the idea to its pending tray is a further indication of cooling enthusiasm among major central banks for fiat digital currencies, especially in the retail sector.
